Conserve Water
Living Green in Bell

Did you know that clean drinking water is in short supply? There are many small changes you can make around your home to save water. And the best part is, water saved is money saved!

Here are a few ways you can make a difference:

  1. Make only the amount of coffee or tea you are going to drink. Use ice cubes to cool water instead of running tap until cool water comes out.
  2. When cleaning produce, use a brush and water sparingly with short bursts of water.
  3. Handwash dishes efficiently by scraping and rinsing dishes all at once. Soak pots and pans overnight. Cut down on clean up by serving single pan meals. If using a dishwasher, wash only full loads.
  4. When watering your garden, water as slowly, thoroughly and infrequently as possible. Water at night to minimize evaporation.
  5. Buy a washing machine that uses the least water per pound of wash.
  6. When shaving, quickly rinse the razor then turn the water off. When brushing teeth, use a cup to rinse and turn the water off while brushing.
  7. When showering, turn the water off while soaping up and cut shower time down to five minutes.
  8. Check all faucets including outside hose connections for leaks and repair immediately.
  9. Wash your car sensibly by washing in sections with short spurts from the hose. Use a car wash that recycles water.
